Romans 13:14
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.

Warrior Poet*,

There are those times when in our mind we are planning to go about this or that to accomplish our will or desire...to get our way. There are those moments when our cravings or passions so consume us, to defend or amuse that we situate ourselves to fulfill the craving or passion regardless of the consequence. It is precisely then that we must “put on” the Lord Jesus Christ. How is this? To put on Jesus like a sweatshirt? Precisely! To be blanketed by his presence to be clothed in his righteousness and not to even develop a plan to satisfy our own desires. This is the only way to walk in the way. It takes focus and deliberate choosing in the closet and wardrobe of the soul.

"Warrior Poet" references the heart of David who wrote the majority of Psalms. He had the heart of an artist and yet was a warrior and king. These devotionals are written to encourage those who have hearts passionate for God to press on in the journey.

Musing

I was sitting at a swim meet with a friend watching our boys compete. My friend has heard my story and for several years has remained cordially resistant to Christ. Somehow or another the conversation turned to the state of the world, etc. and he said its kind of ‘scary.’ I again had the opportunity to share my ONE Story, that brief one line statement that preceded “and thats why Im not scared.” He paused and said, “Yeah, I guess thats right.” The crowd cheered and our attention went back to the swim meet but the seed again was cast. I still hope my friend will fall for Christ the way I have and thats why I keep telling the story.
