Key Question
How do I study God’s Word?

Key Verse
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it  penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. ~Hebrews 4:12

Why This Matters
If Jesus used Scripture to combat temptation – what makes us think we don’t need to ?
The Bible is the most used and abused book in the world.
You can’t apply what you don’t know ( meditate/memorize).
Illumination is the Spirit highlighting the word of God.
God’s word exposes our souls/motives/desires/thoughts/and attitudes.
Leaving your house without Word intake is like not taking your antibiotic or not having your umbrella in a storm.

Discussion Question
In your experience, has Bible Study been closer to an academic exercise or a relational pursuit?
What limits you from being more engaged in Bible Study either in consistency or depth? What pursuits do you prioritize above studying God’s Word?
What role does the Holy Spirit play in our Bible Study? Do you pray before a study asking for illumination and guidance from the Spirit?
When have you experienced the fruitfulness of Bible Study? Have you been ministering to someone and been able to give them wisdom from Scripture? Have you been in need of truth in your own life and received it from God’s Living Word?
