I have an aloe plant named Wilson. He’s named after the volleyball in “Castaway” that kept Tom Hanks company. Even Tom Hanks, in the movie, realized he needed community so that he wouldn’t go crazy. He needed someone to talk to, to confide in, and to keep him company.
We are designed in the image of God who is ONE in three persons. A divine “we” in singularity. It’s difficult to imagine but we intrinsically know we are designed to be in union – unison with others and with God. This week we discussed that community is a supernatural reality, that participating in it is our expression of God’s mission, and it’s what we deeply long for but our flesh fights against it.
In what ways has Christian community shaped you? Where are you missing key ingredients of community? Where are you missing out or settling?
