From the Archives…

While Pastor Jeff is on sabbatical, we will open the vault and take a look back into his past sermons, personal musings, leadership postings and Warrior Poet devotionals.

Ask for More
July 24, 2011

Do you see God as a “glass half-empty God?” Are you waiting for the other shoe to drop, or do you ask Him for things knowing that He has your best interest at heart and wants to shower you with His love and favor?

Hebrews 4:16:  So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Be Bold!

  • What areas of your life are you numb?  Apathetic?  Comfortable?
  • What is preventing you from seeking God?
  • Is something numbing the pain of a broken area in your life, preventing you from even seeking God?

Luke 11:9-10:  “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Ask, Seek and Knock:  Persistent Shamelessness

  • What area of your life have you quit or given up on?
  • Where have you given up pursuing God for a good gift?
  • What is so urgent in your life you would shamelessly plead with God for?
  • What do you need to boldly ask God for?
  • Is your asking and urgency for God himself or merely for what you want him to “do”?

Proverbs 3:5-6:  Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Good Gifts:  Trust

  • What if God’s best is a “no”?
  • How have you responded in the past when “no” was the answer?

Warrior Poet

Psalm 72:17:  May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun. Then all nations will be blessed through him, and they will call him blessed.

 Dear Warrior Poet,

The Lord is our portion! There is nothing on this earth that can satisfy your desires. There are two questions: Who are you? And, what do you want? Most people never answer these and they quest in search of the answer their entire lives. You are a Child of the Most High God, a Son, a Prince, and you want His kingdom to come! You want to change the world, to enter into the glory that is yours, which is in Him. You want His glory to be revealed in you that the world might see his Kingdom break forth in that moment. The Lord is your portion forever! Don’t want or desire lesser things! Who are you? And, what do you want?

July 31, 2011…  In April the doctor told us that our child would have to have invasive and major spine surgery we were initially at a loss. We hurt for our child as she wrestled with these thoughts in her pivotal teenage years. We reeled at the cost and process and then we decided to Ask for More and Expect More! God is writing her story in a unique and powerful way and already we have had God touches…miracles really…people connecting us with the right doctors, praying and God answering through amazing sets of circumstances. We are hopeful and expectant and we trust that in every circumstance our God is big enough and on our side. How are you expecting more?
